We have had 5 TJBA members that have been braving the 116 degree heat in Phoenix to represent the Braunvieh breed at the IGS Summit. They have learned leadership skills, personal development, about IGS, cattle reproduction, ag advocacy and toured different Ag industries. They even were able to help with a ag in the classroom project.
Recap provided from our TBA ambassador Coy Pittman
At first, I was nervous about going to the IGS leadership event in Phoenix, AZ. However, this conference pushed me to get out of my shell to interact with other members from other breeds and learn how other breeds do things. Not only did I get to meet several new people from all over the United States we got to hear from some great speakers, but my favorite was the Arizona State University Vernerian which talked about AI, embryo transfer, and flushing cattle.
I would encourage any junior to find a leadership event and go, You never know what you will learn, who you will meet that will become your lifetime friend, or the power of the connection made. These events will also help you to grow and become a better and stronger leader.
We also learned AG advocacy from the Arizona Farm Bureau about how labels can be so misleading, and how we can educate people on these labels.
Some of the fun things we got to do were pack bags for Ag in the Classroom, play Top Golf, tour a dairy feedlot, go through BioSphere 2, and tour the Arizona State University Farm where they are doing a study on how heat affects reproduction in cattle.
Update from ambassador Kaylin Jacobs: The 2023 Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raiser’s Association Cattle Raiser’s Round-Up was truly an incredible experience. The five-day experience entailed my exploration of various aspects of the agriculture and beef industry. Throughout the week I had the opportunity to explore countless aspects. The week consisted of twenty stops: each unique to the industry. These different destinations ranged from the State Capital in Austin to the HEB Meat Plant in San Antonio and everything in between. While the entire experience was phenomenal and I thoroughly enjoyed each part, a few destinations surpassed the others.
These parts were visiting Dean and Peeler Processing where I expanded my knowledge on beef processing and HeartBrand Cattle where I toured a large specialty cattle operation. Overall this experience was extremely beneficial and eye-opening to all that is involved in the industry.
I am immensely appreciative of this exceptional opportunity I got to experience. This being said, I strongly encourage the juniors of the Texas Braunvieh Association to research available leadership opportunities and utilize those opportunities to grow their knowledge and abilities. These opportunities are extremely valuable and the experience of these opportunities will be lifelong. I guarantee that each junior will be very much pleased with the knowledge obtained following their experience.

Update from Ambassador Colt Pittman:
I had the privilege of going to the fair at Sundance, Wyoming at the end of July. We had a booth promoting the Braunvieh breed with live cattle and literature talking about the breed. We got to talk to a lot of people about the breed, because the breed is not well known in that part of the country.
We also had a coloring contest for the kids, which was a big hit. Thank you, James & Natasha Gilbert, for putting this on, and allowing me to come and share about the breed. I would encourage young and older breeders to go and show off the Braunvieh breed, and remember no event is too big or too small to promote the breed at. We never know where the next Braunvieh breeder will be.
